This article explains how to connect, export, and disconnect your accounting software, and how to troubleshoot common issues.
Overview
Connecting your Capital on Tap account with accounting software can help you manage your business finances more efficiently. We offer Live Feed integrations, which automatically sync your transactions. You can also manually export transactions for upload. The whole Credit account and all cards will sync via the integration.
What does connecting my accounting platform do?
Connecting your account helps you manage your expenses by creating an automatic data feed to your accounting software. This syncs your financial activity, including card payments, refunds, and interest charges, overnight, giving you a near real-time view of your business cash flow and simplifying your bookkeeping.
How do I manually export my Capital on Tap transactions for accounting software?
You can manually export your transactions as a CSV file that's compatible with your accounting software. This file includes a notes column with any notes you've added to transactions. You can also choose to include receipts, which are downloaded in a zip file alongside the CSV.
Customers can export to: Sage, Xero, QuickBooks, and FreeAgent.
To export manually:
-
Log in to your Capital on Tap portal.
-
Go to the 'Accounting' page.
-
Click 'Export' under your chosen platform.
-
Select a date range and click 'Export' again to download your file.
How do I connect my Capital on Tap Business Credit Card via Live Feed?
A Live Feed automatically adds your transactions to your accounting software without the need for manual import and export. The feed refreshes overnight. You can connect to: QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, and FreeAgent. This option doesn't let you include receipts against the transactions.
To connect via Live Feed:
-
Log in to your Capital on Tap portal.
-
Go to the 'Accounting' page.
-
Click 'Connect' under your chosen software.
-
Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the connection.
Why isn't my transaction showing on my Live Feed?
Transactions will not show on your Live Feed until they are cleared. After this, transactions will sync the following business day. If your transaction was more than 1 business day ago, please contact us for support.
How do I connect my Capital on Tap Instant Savings account to accounting software?
You can connect your Capital on Tap Instant Savings account, powered by ClearBank, directly to Xero, Sage, and FreeAgent. It is not currently possible to connect Savings accounts to QuickBooks.
If you're already linking your Credit account to your accounting software, you can add your Savings account too. Disconnect the integration via your accounting software's own portal, then reconnect through your Capital on Tap portal to add both accounts.
How do I disconnect an accounting integration?
To disconnect an integration, log in to your accounting software's own portal (for example Xero or QuickBooks) and remove the Capital on Tap connection from its settings. You can reconnect at any time through your Capital on Tap portal.
Why can I only use Manual exports with my QuickBooks account?
The Self-Employed plan on QuickBooks doesn't support full integrations with third-party apps, so customers on this plan can only use the Manual export feature.
Why do I get an Error 103 when connecting to QuickBooks?
This error is generated by QuickBooks when it thinks the login is spam. Please contact QuickBooks support directly to resolve this.
Why haven't my QuickBooks transactions synced overnight?
You need to wait up to 24 hours for the overnight sync to complete. If it still doesn't work, disconnect and reconnect your accounts.
Why can't I download my QuickBooks CSV file?
If you're using Google Chrome, try downloading the file in an incognito window to see if that resolves the issue.
Why have my Xero transactions not synced?
Disconnect and reconnect your Xero account through the 'Accounting' page in your Capital on Tap portal, then allow up to 24 hours for the overnight sync to take place.
Why is my Xero balance different from my Capital on Tap portal balance?
This can happen because we only send up to 3 months of historical transactions when you connect. If you had a balance before your first synced transaction, you'll need to manually adjust your opening balance in Xero.
Why have my FreeAgent transactions not synced?
Disconnect and reconnect your FreeAgent account via the 'Accounting' page in your Capital on Tap portal. You should also sign out and back into both your Capital on Tap account and your accounting software account, then allow up to 24 hours for the overnight sync to take place.
