Learn how to apply for Bill Pay, what it costs, and how to schedule, track, and manage bill payments.
Overview
Bill Pay is currently in beta, and you'll need to request access before you can use it. Payments are made by bank transfer rather than card, so they carry a separate fee and aren't covered by the same protections as card purchases.
What is Bill Pay?
Bill Pay is a feature that lets you pay UK businesses by bank transfer using your Capital on Tap credit limit. If you're trying to pay a business that does not accept Capital on Tap cards via invoice, this is the only available alternative.
It's designed for business expenses that can't be paid by card, such as rent, large supplier invoices, or vendor payments.
How do I apply?
Bill Pay is currently in beta and is not available to all customers. To request access, contact us via the app or online portal.
Once access is granted:
-
The main account holder must log in to the online portal or app and accept the Bill Pay Agreement before they can access Bill Pay.
-
The 'Bill Pay' tab will appear in their account.
-
Main account holders and Administrators can schedule payments.
Important: Bill Pay will only be visible once access has been granted.

Is the Bill Pay fee subject to VAT?
The Bill Pay fee is treated as a transaction against your credit limit and will appear on your monthly statement. As a separate invoice is not issued for the fee, it is not VAT taxable.
Are Bill Pay payments covered by the same protections as credit card transactions?
No. Bill Pay payments are processed as a bank transfer, not a card payment, so they are not covered by the same consumer protections as standard credit card purchases — this includes chargeback rights if you're unhappy with goods or services received. It's important to double-check all recipient and payment details before confirming a payment, as authorised payments cannot be cancelled. See the Bill Pay Agreement for the full terms.
How do I schedule a bill payment?

Log in to the online portal.
-
Go to the 'Bill Pay' tab.
-

When will the bill payment be sent?
The scheduled payment date depends on when you submit the bill.
-
If a bill is scheduled before 4:30 pm, the earliest available payment date is the next business day.
-
If a bill is scheduled after 4:30 pm, the earliest available payment date is 2 business days later.
All payments are processed by 5:00 pm on the scheduled date, and the payment status is available to view in the online portal under the 'Bill Pay' tab.
Do I need to upload an invoice?
An invoice is not always required. However, Capital on Tap may request one if:
-
Additional verification is needed.
-
The payment is for salaries (a payslip may be requested).
Receipts are not accepted, as Bill Pay can only process invoices.
Can I make international bill payments?
No. Bill Pay currently supports GBP payments to UK businesses only.
What payment reference will my supplier see?
Payments are sent from Capital on Tap Invoicing Services and will include the payment reference you provided when scheduling the bill.
How can I find the payment reference?
Payment references and all details from a bill payment can be viewed in the online portal, under the 'Bill Pay' tab.
Can I cancel a scheduled bill payment?
Yes, you can cancel a scheduled bill payment at any time before it is processed.
-
Log in to the online portal.
-
Navigate to the 'Bill Pay' tab.
-
Select the scheduled payment and cancel it.
Once a payment has been processed, it cannot be cancelled.
What should I do if a supplier hasn't received a payment?
Check the live payment status in the 'Bill Pay' tab of the online portal.
-
If the portal shows the payment is still processing, allow the expected timeframe to pass.
-
If the portal shows the payment has been sent but the supplier has not received it, contact us via the app or online portal.
-
If the payment has not changed to processing on the date it is due to be paid, it may be under review. Our internal team should have reached out via email to confirm some information.
What should I do if I haven't received goods or services I paid for using Bill Pay?
Because Bill Pay payments are bank transfers, not card payments, they do not have chargeback rights. You'll need to liaise directly with the merchant to resolve the issue. We can provide proof of payment to support your claim.
